TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 40th anniversary of the establishment of Iran’s Quran Radio was celebrated in a ceremony held here in Tehran on Friday.

A number of Quran masters, reciters and memorizers as well as managers and staff of the Quran Radio attended the celebration, which was broadcast live.

Mansour Qasrizadeh, the director of the radio station, in an address noted that the Quran Radio was established on February 11, 1983, on the fifth anniversary of the Islamic Revolution’s victory.

He noted that it was founded at the suggestion of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, who was the president of Iran at the time.

At first, the Quran Radio would only broadcast Quran recitations a few hours everyday but gradually it developed its activities to include programs on Quranic and Islamic teachings, he added.

Secretary of Iran’s Council for Development of Quranic Culture Hojat-ol-Islam Hamid Mohammadi, member of Assembly of Experts Mohammad Hossein Saffar Harandi, and Mojtaba Mohammadi, director of the Meshakt Quranic Institute, also addressed the event.  

The Quran Radio is affiliated to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB). It is a station radio broadcasting programs 24 hours a day in the Persian Language.
